How I long for the Old View

These images are based on views of the original  Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. This Gothic fantasy on the banks of the river Avon was built  by  William Frederick Unsworth In 1879 after designs by W F Cusworth.

Tragically the theatre was destroyed by fire in 1926. Some of the original building  did surive and  form a part  of today's the Royal Shakepeare Theatre.
